Traveling? So Should Your Exercise Routine!
Whether you travel for work or pleasure, you need to keep up your exercise regimen while you’re on the road. With a little know-how, you can incorporate an effective workout anywhere from a swanky hotel gym to a campground with your family. Admittedly, you may need to shorten your time from your typical routine, but getting something in is always better than nothing. Here are a few easy tips that can keep you healthy and fit, even on the go!
1. Plan ahead. You plan all the other aspects of your trip, including meetings, reservations for dinners, activities during the day and night, spa appointments, etc. Plan a time for exercise. If you make a conscious thought to incorporate some exercise at a certain time of day, you will be much more likely to actually complete it.
2. Pack the clothes and shoes. If you see the clothes in your suitcase, it will be a constant reminder to put them on and use them!
3. Pack exercise tubing or bands. These are light-weight and take up very little room. You can do a full-body exercise with your bodyweight and an exercise band in very little space. Bodylastics makes great bands that are compact and easy to travel with.
4. Plan activities that incorporate exercise into your trip. If you’re on vacation with your family, plan at least one active thing per day. Go for a hike. Get in the pool and swim with your kids! Walk around the city you may be visiting instead of taking a cab or rental car. Take the stairs in your hotel.
5. Business Trip: Visit your hotel website before you depart to see what the gym has to offer. If you’re not into the gym, use a hotel towel and your bands in your room. Plan to get up early to complete your routine. As you know the day can get away from you with meetings, meals out, etc.
6. Try a new yoga or exercise class in the area. This is a great way to mix up your routine and give yourself a fresh new workout! You can work your muscles in new ways, giving you a break from your day-to-day drill at home. This could be just the thing to jump-start you to try something new at home too!
There are many other ways to incorporate activity into your day. The bottom line is get out there! Be active and get creative! Enjoy your travels!
