What is a Managed Exercise program?

Think of it as an exercise class designed specifically just for you!  Each group has 4-5 people, each performing their own exercise program.  Exercise Programs designed, implemented and managed specifically for and with each client by an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist.

How is this different than my local gym?

It's way more fun!  We design a personalized program for YOUR needs and goals.  Supervision is a constant.  You are never left alone to try to figure out what you should be doing.  You will be guided through your program for as long as you need until you feel comfortable advancing through your program independently.  Programs are updated regularly to meet your needs.  

Do you have open gym time that I can workout on my own without a Trainer?

Not at this time.  Our gym is dedicated to clients that are seeking extra attention with a trainer and a managed exercise plan.

Why is seeing an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist important?

ACSM is the Gold Standard Certification for Exercise Physiologists and fitness trainers that prescribe exercises for medically complex individuals.  An ACSM certification means the trainer has a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, has passed a rigorous exam and completes regular course work throughout the year.  This keeps the trainer up to date on the latest in fitness and exercises no matter what the clients current health situation is.    

My physical Therapy appointments are ending, can you help me continue my program?

Absolutely.  A Physical Therapy clinic (Alpine Physical Therapy) shares our space in Longmont, CO.  We can work closely with your PT to continue your progress and reduce the likelihood you get injured again.  

why is this more expensive than joining a regular 24 hour gym? 

You can definitely find gyms that are under $20 per month for membership.  Many have contracts that last a year and will cost you if you break them early.  In the end, they are betting that you won't show up after the first few weeks of exercising and they can continue to charge your credit card.  With Fitness is Medicine, you don't have to think about what exercises to do, we do that for you.  We also provide motivation while you're in our gym and track your progress.  Our Exercise Physiologists are trained to work with ANYONE no matter their age, weight or medical condition.  We give you the personal attention you need to be successful.

What can I expect during my exercise session at Fitness is Medicine?

  • Direction and assistance with all exercises, including consistent monitoring of form. 
  • An individualized program, designed and ready, prior to your scheduled exercise time. 
  • A non-intimidating environment aimed toward health and function, helping you reach your goals
  • Monitoring of resting and exercise blood pressure, heart rate and O2 saturation

What if I'm limited by a medical condition?

We have had success working with a variety of complex conditions including: Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Obesity, Limited Mobility, Pre and Post joint Replacement and more.  We will work closely with your physician to develop a program to fit your needs. 

Why do you take vitals (Heart Rate, blood pressure and Oxygen levels) During exercise?

Your vitals differ when you are resting and exercising.  By recording vitals before, during and after exercise, we can keep our clients safe but also see how they are progressing in their program.

Do you take insurance or medicare?

At this time we do not take insurance or medicare.  

I am planning a joint replacement, should I wait to start an exercise program?

No!  Start now!  Studies have shown that pre strengthening before the joint replacement can reduce recovery time drastically.  Even if it hurts to move, we can work with you to make exercise as comfortable as possible to get you strong before your scheduled surgery.

Can I work out at the same time as my spouse or friend? 

Depending on the the time of day we can make it work and we encourage it.  Having another person to keep you motivated will help you see results faster.
